Week 54

"I like calling myself cute" -Noah

Good morning everyone! What a week! So many eventful things happened. This week is going to be another eventful week because I get to celebrate my 21st birthday on Friday with the Zullos! On the sad note of things, so many of my favorite missionaries go home this Saturday so I will probably cry. Transfers are next Wednesday so Sunday we find out our transfer news! Recently I also found out my official coming home date and it's June 9th. WHAT IS HAPPENING.

Well last Monday I had to do some online things for school and have been in the process of readmission for UVU (still don't know if I'm actually going to UVU anymore) so that was stressful. I have changed my mind so much on the mission that I don't even know what the wack I'm doing when I get home (please pray for me haha).

Since our car broke again we have driven three different cars this week! Two of them were previously from elders and were so trashed we had to clean them spotless, so the elders appreciated that. We are currently driving a truck that we don't want to give up! We should be getting our original car back soon. Our apartment also decided to flood over night while we were sleeping, so we woke up to a nice surprise yesterday morning. We are supposed to be getting our carpets cleaned today so yay! Our breaker also blew and our fridge was off for hours so that was fun too!

We did alot of service last week! From cleaning cars, to organizing people's storage, and cleaning out garages. We did Zone service on Saturday for a lady named Deb! It took us three hours! (Pictures at the bottom)

EXCITING NEWS: Remember Joseph my investigator in Deer Lodge? Well...HE GOT BAPTIZED. Sister Phillips and I had the opportunity to Skype into his baptism and it was amazing. I teared up that's for sure! Recently the missionary department sent out an email saying that we could no longer Skype into baptisms so we got lucky and were able to do that last one!

We had interviews with President and that is always a fun time! Basically the whole time President laughed at me and agreed with me being dramatic (he's right). I love that man! I shed some tears during the interview because we both were looking back on where I started and where I am now. President said "I'm proud of you. You've changed." I just about lost it. I am so grateful for my mission and I don't want it to end!

Another service activity we got to do was painting nails for little old ladies! We got to pair up with the Shiloh sisters and it was the most entertaining hour of my life. One of the ladies, ruby, is so ornery and hit me on the back haha. I love these ladies because they have no filter so it's just a crack up. One of the other ladies, Anna, said "I want a sexy color!"

We had some awesome lessons with members wanting to return back to church. The time with them just warmed my heart. All of them just need love! All people need is love! We are now doing alot of member work and it's one of my favorite things now! One of the member families we are working with are the Greens. Let me tell ya about the Greens....

The Greens are active but Sister Green sometimes can't make it to church because of her illness. She just found out a few days ago that she has lymphoma and a bunch of other things to go along with that. I cried. They are one of my favorite families. We visit them often and this week we are celebrating Sister green, ellsie, and my birthday because we all have a birthday the same week! Now where I'm going with this is simple...

JUST LOVE. This week I invite you all to do something for someone else and simply just love them. I am so grateful for the love the Savior and my Heavenly Father have for me and for each of you. They are forever here with you.

"From the beginning down through the dispensations, God has used angels as His emissaries in conveying love and concern for His children. Time in this setting does not allow even a cursory examination of the scriptures or our own latter-day history, which are so filled with accounts of angels ministering to those on earth, but it is rich doctrine and rich history indeed.

Usually such beings are not seen. Sometimes they are. But seen or unseen they are always near.

Sometimes their assignments are very grand and have significance for the whole world. Sometimes the messages are more private. Occasionally the angelic purpose is to warn. But most often it is to comfort, to provide some form of merciful attention, guidance in difficult times. When in Lehi’s dream he found himself in a frightening place, “a dark and dreary waste,” as he described it, he was met by an angel, “a man … dressed in a white robe; … he spake unto me,” Lehi said, “and bade me follow him.” Lehi did follow him to safety and ultimately to the path of salvation. In the course of life all of us spend time in “dark and dreary” places, wildernesses, circumstances of sorrow or fear or discouragement. Our present day is filled with global distress over financial crises, energy problems, terrorist attacks, and natural calamities. These translate into individual and family concerns not only about homes in which to live and food available to eat but also about the ultimate safety and well-being of our children and the latter-day prophecies about our planet. More serious than these—and sometimes related to them—are matters of ethical, moral, and spiritual decay seen in populations large and small, at home and abroad. But I testify that angels are still sent to help us." - Elder Holland

I testify along with Elder Holland that God and Christ are still here with you. I know that this church is true and it is the way to full happiness.

I love each of you and I hope you enjoy your week!

Keep the faith.

Week 53

ALMOST 21""

Hello beautiful people! Last week was a little slower so bare with me! Fun announcement...I turn 21 next week!

So we had exchanges and I went with Sister Christenesen in her area and I loved it. We taught some awesome people! We video chatted this 10 year-old girl named Cricket! Her brothers name is Spider! Sick names.  We went to the temple with the Shiloh sisters at 6 am! We were so dang tired. But it was so worth it.

We invited Randy to be baptized and he accepted! We brought the elders with us to teach and it was awesome! Someone also tried to break into our car because we were in a sketchy area so that was cool. Some little kid spilled soup on me at dinner so I smelt the rest of the night. Our week wasn't all that eventful. I got sick so that slowed us down. Our car broke again so that was a pain.

I love you all and I hope all is well.

Keep the faith.

Week 52

"Sister Miles, here's a Snickers bar because you're not yourself when you're hungry."- Elder Black

Goodmorning lovely people! Well I officially hit one year! So crazy! Now I'm really getting nervous about how much time I have left. Lately it's been in the 40s and to us that is HOT. I haven't been wearing a coat! I don't know how I'm going to survive back home in California!

I'm sure everyone knows by now but I'm so sad to hear that President Monson has passed. What a wonderful example he has been to me and to others. One of my favorite quotes from him will always be "It is better to look up." He taught me what true discipleship was but most of all he taught me what it truly means to a line your will to the Fathers. He is a perfect example of a consecrated man.

Last week was another adventure! I was stress sick which caused me to sleep most of Thursday and be dragged along on Friday. Luckily it didn't last too long but Thursday was brutal. Sister Mounteer looked at me and said "you look awful." That's love haha. I managed to get myself up to make it to dinner that night and to do some work. We ended up finding two new people that night so it was a success! Lately we have had to drop quite a few people and have been having a hard time finding new people but the Lord promises us blessings as we are obedient! The elders noticed that I wasn't doing too hot so they all decided to tease me (as they do) but topped it off with giving me a snickers bar because apparently I'm angry if I don't eat a snickers bar. I have brothers every area I go to and they all drive me crazy sometimes but I love them.

As I mentioned in my last weekly I got to go to the temple! Sister Mounteer and I are planning to go sometime for the Tuesday 6 am session so it'll be worth it.

We had zone conference last week and it was amazing (stressful). I definitely shed some tears at the worrying of not being good enough or falling short. This transfer focus is on being a more consecrated missionary. It is very stressful for me but I've also seen so many blessings as I'm striving to be more like my Savior Jesus Christ. A question that was asked was "What do I owe the Lord?" I would like for you all to ponder on that question. In another talk we are studying there is an amazing paragraph in it I would like to share:

~"Paraphrasing C.S. Lewis the Lord says to  us: "Give me all. I don't want so  much of  your time, so much of your talents and money,  and so much of your work:  I  want  You. All of  you. I have not come  to torment or frustrate the natural  man. but to kill it. No  half-measures  will do. I don't want to only  prune a branch here and another there; rather, I want the whole tree out. Hand  it all over to  me, the whole outfit, all of  your  desires, all of your wants and wishes and dreams. Turn them  all over to  me, give  yourself to me  and I will make of  you a  new self in  my  image. Give  me  yourself and in  exchange I  will  give  you  Myself. My  will, shall become your will. My heart, shall become  your  heart." ~

Now I ask again, what do you owe the Lord?
(I'll come back to this)

Most of our week we did alot of tracting in hopes to find some awesome people! We did tract into a few people who said they could potentially be interested so that was a plus! We tracted into this one lady and she opened the door and said "there's no soliciting here" and Sister Mounteer the innocent person she is said "oh, but we're not selling anything." The lady then responded (this made me laugh) and said "well I wouldn't want to sell Jesus." I was very confused and I'll just leave it at that.

Sometimes when you're tracting for so long you get bored so I started a snowball fight with Sister Mounteer and was chasing after bunnies so I guess you can call me dignified. We have also got stuck a couple of times and have had people come to our rescue so that was nice. For wheel drive doesn't do much justice in Montana winters. Oh! Another interesting story as we were knocking on someone's door; we knocked on this part member families door and this little cute boy answered. We asked him where his parents were and he said "My mom's not here and my dad's in jail." Um.....he then closed the door and we went on our merry way. Everyday is interesting in the mission field.

We have a wacky upstairs neighbor who always seems to wake us up. He constantly plays his music or has his dang dog barking all the time. We don't know his name so we refer to him as "Mr. Man." So creative of us.

Anyways, yesterday was a great fast Sunday! We moved into the new building for one of our wards and it's beautiful. I have never been in a fresh new church! Echo Canyon ward is huge! We fill up the whole chapel plus most of the gym in the overflow. So amazing! When we broke our fast I definitely ate too much. The members gave us Yohoos to take to go and it reminded me of home!

The rest of the week is history. I love you all and hope you had a wonderful new years! This is a time for you to set some new goals! My goals this year are more focused on how I can be more like our Savior.

I just wanted to leave you with this last quote:
~"Some time  ago  I  saw a  movie  on the life  of Martin  Luther.  He  was  about to be  tried  for  heresy. Shortly  before  he  was to meet with the  Court of  Inquisition, his spiritual mentor (a  monk who had trained  him  and loved him)  was cutting  his hair  with a razor. At one  point the  monk reprimanded  Luther for  having turned  the world upside down,  leading  the world in revolt  –  Protestants against  Catholics. Then in a  stirring  moment,  Luther  grasps his arm and asks:  “You wanted me  to change  the world. Did  you  think there  would be  no cost?”  The  Lord  demands  our whole soul  on the sacrificial altar. That is the price  we  must  pay, and  when we  do, we  then  become instruments in the hands of  God."~

I testify that there is a cost to be more like our Savior and that is to give up the natural man. I know that the Savior lives and he wants us to obtain all the blessings he and our Father in Heaven have to offer us.

Keep the faith!

If you want to see more of my pictures and my mission I can add you to my drive!

Week 51

"James did not say: "If any of you lack wisdom let him google!"- Elder Ballard

Hi everyone! Happy New Year!

Well last week was cold and we were asked to stay in a few times because it was too dangerous. Our cars air broke so we have been driving another car in the meantime.

This morning we went to the temple and it was the best! It was a whole year that I had not been to the temple so it was a blessing.

I officially turn 21 in a month whoop whoop!

Sorry that this weekly is very boring but I'll add pictures to make up for it all.

Keep the faith.

Week 50

"These windshield wipers are hurting my OCD." -Sister Mounteer

Goodmorning! I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and I hope everyone has a Happy New Year! Well I'll say that my Christmas was good besides the fact of spending it with a bunch of random people I met for the first time! I did get to have dinner with the Zullos and it was the best! Sadly they arent in my ward but we got permission to have dinner with them! Best christmas gift ever! Thank you everyone for the gifts I received and cards, I appreciate it.

Well I'm now in Billings after a long transfer and getting stuck a few times in the snow. I am over two wards and I'm an office sister! Whoop whoop!

Last week was great! It's been super cold but other than that I love billings! We have just been spending our time finding new investigators and building up the area. Not much to report on but I love you all.

Keep the faith.

Week 49

"I don't think I'm ever going to understand you." -Sister Lewis

Hello! I hope everyone had a great week! Transfer news: I'M GOING TO BILLINGS AND I'LL BE WITH MY MTC COMPANION SISTER MOUNTEER! I'm so excited! Now the only sister from my group I need to be with is Sister Lystrup! Sister Cannon will be taking my place and will be with Sister Lewis!

Well last week was pretty good! Tuesday we spent alot of the day going around and handing out cookies to people. We had a lesson with Tim and it was amazing as usual. We then did family history with Sarah and Shane! Shane will be going to the temple this Wednesday! The rest of the day we went about some more lessons and visiting people.

Wednesday after district meeting we went about lessons for the day! Most of our day we were just trying to contact people so it was a long day! We then had mutal with the youth and stuffed stockings for our Christmas party!

Thursday we mostly did service and weekly planning of course. The senior center is always crazy but so fun, I'm going to miss it!

Friday we had a meeting in the morning then had the senior center and the food pantry. We did some phone finding later that night after a lesson where we were bashed on so we decided to take a break!

Saturday we had lessons all day so we were running around. To sum up Saturday night we ended up dropping one of our investigators who had me and a member in tears by the end of the lesson. It was bad haha but all is well now.

Sunday we fun! Tim came to church and it was so exciting! We were busy all day after church. We went over to see my bestie Kristy and I just love her! We then had THE BEST lesson ever with a new couple investigating.  So the wife requested a bible off of mormon.org and that's how we got in contact with her. We had our first lesson with them yesterday and they are golden! I'm so sad that I'm leaving now though! Our Christmas party was a success. Tim our investgator played Santa and loved it! We had a bunch of our investigators come so it was a blast!

Emotionally this week was crazy but definitely eventful in many ways. The pictures for this week explain what I did.

You are all the best and I love you lots! Keep the faith and keep lighting up the world! #lighttheworld

I attached my new address below!

Week 48

"Randy: Janice what did you eat? "Janice: ..ooo that was a good fart!" Stacey: "you all need professional help."

Goodmorning wonderful people! Another eventful week here for Sister Miles! Guess what? I had a cold all week :) yes, I have been sick this whole transfer. It's been a rough one.

Last Monday we went down to Butte and spent time there with some of the other missionaries and played some games. I went all out with pod ball as usual.

Tuesday was a big finding day as well as some lessons here and there. We had a lesson with Tim and he's so close to baptism! We had to take him off date because he expressed that he just needs to take his time. He came to church Sunday though! It was amazing! This week we have our ward Christmas party and Tim will be playing Santa so he is excited about that. We also made the 30 minute drive out to the Perkins home for dinner that night! I just adore their kids. They love me just like family which is comforting to me. At the end of dinner the kids asked us if we would help decorate their tree so we stayed with the time we had left and did that. At the end the kids ended up decorating me instead of the tree. These moments are what matter. That night we went to the Ebels home and visited with them. They used to be on date for baptism but had some concerns. They now are taking the lessons again! Their household is nuts! They have about 20 people coming and going everyday. The quote in my subject line is from them, that explains their characters. I love them!

Wednesday was good ole zone conference! This was the Christmas zone conference so it was extra special. We made the drive down to Helena and were there until about two. There was a talent show at the end (which I just watched) and it was the bomb. After we had got done eating we each got goody bags with some gifts from the mission and letters! Yes I cried. We then had a slideshow prepared for us that had each missionary in the mission with a baby picture or another picture of some sort that our parents sent in. It was embarrassing because now the whole mission has seen my past features haha. After all that we drove back to Deer Lodge and had a few great lessons!

Thursday we weekly planned and had a few other things we had to do before we went off to do service at the senior center! It's always a fun time there! We were so busy there that we were going into our dinner time and ended up only with 15 minutes for dinner since we had a lesson right after service. It's was hectic! We had a great lesson with one of my all time favorite investigators (john because he's ornery like me). The lesson at first was rocky but at the end we invited him to be baptized on January 20th and he accepted! He agreed to read and more! After we invited him to be baptized he said "okay but I get to be naked". At this point I smacked myself on the face but wasn't surprised that he said that. Typical John. Now John is a very proud guy. During the lesson he was being stubborn and all of the sudden it was quiet and he was staring me in the eyes and I said "you need to be more humble". I was like DID I JUST SAY THAT. After that he accepted it and agreed to read which before he wouldn't do. He then agreed to be baptized and find out for himself if this was true. The spirit for sure called John to repentance but had to use me! We laughed after but I really was grateful for the spirit and how bold it is.

Friday we had service until three and were super busy. We saw Judy after service and had a great conversation with her. She is currently on date to be baptized the 30th of this month but won't make that date. She is amazing! Her hold up is attending church because he's constantly babysitting her grandkids. She wants to take her time as well so she can help her daughter get to church with her. It was improvement for Judy because she opened up and really showed a desire to change! After Judy we had a lesson with my pal Joseph. We brought the Miller's with us and it was a success! Sister Miller asked Joseph if he was going to make his date for baptism (January 24th) and he looked at her shocked that she had asked and with his sassy tone he said "oh yeah!" Whoop whoop! Later that night we had a great lesson with Sarah and Shane. We were more focused on Sarah who was going to be baptized along with Shane but backed down. She was honest with her concerns and she said she didnt like organized religion. I asked her what she enjoyed when she was investigating and reading the Book of Mormon. She said "I was alot happier." I just adore Sarah so much. I know that the Book of Mormon is true, that you will find peace and true happiness by reading it each day.

Saturday I was sick all afternoon (dying in my bed). It was rough. Sister Lewis is like my girl husband. She always takes care of me when I'm sick and cooks me food. The rest of the day we went out finding. We had dinner with an investigator who had been taught by the sisters for over a year. Her name is Anngie! She made us tacos and made us try something that Sister Shoemaker said "changed her life." Okay it sounds weird but oil and vinegar on your tacos...it was actually good! We later went over and saw sweet Tammy and just had a blast with her.

Sunday we went down to Philipsburg since we hadn't been there in weeks. We got docked more miles this month so we can't make as many trips as we would like. All through church I had to get up at least five times to blow my nose since I was sick. We were then asked to say the prayers and I was so nasally so that was fun.

That was my week! I love you all. Keep the faith.

REMINDER: ALL CHRISTMAS GIFTS HAVE TO BE SENT BEFORE THE TRANSFER ENDS ON THE 20TH.

"You cannot be too good. Patience is heavenly, obedience is noble, forgiveness is merciful, and exaltation is godly; and he that holds out faithful to the end shall in no wise lose his reward. A good man [or woman] will endure all things to honor Christ." -Ensign 2017
